Summary

Professor Dr Mary Anne Tan Jin Ai is currently Professor in the Department of Biomedical Science, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya.

She was employed as Research Officer in the Department of Malaria and Filariasis, Institute for Medical Research, Malaysia and later as Research Fellow in the Division of Human Genetics, Dept of Paediatrics, National University of Singapore. She was involved in research in medical genetics and worked closely with clinicians in the development and implementation of molecular diagnostic tests for genetic disorders.

Her laboratory in UM conducted research in Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia (MEN) Type 2A and genetic testing for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The laboratory is currently active in genetic analysis of Keratoconus, a degenerative disorder of the eye and molecular characterisation and prenatal diagnosis for thalassaemia and haemoglobin variants.
