
Jaime Almazán-Polo
Summary
PhD in Health Sciences from the University of Coruña, awarded with CUM LAUDE distinction, with a specialization in morphofunctional assessment using musculoskeletal ultrasound. Since 2019, he has served as a Professor in the Department of Physiotherapy at the European University of Madrid, where he has been on staff since September 1, 2017. He holds dual degrees in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences and Physiotherapy. His research focuses on health and the prevention of sports-related injuries, with an emphasis on the morphofunctional assessment of the musculoskeletal system through ultrasound.
He has authored multiple scientific articles published in high-impact journals indexed in the Journal Citation Reports. Additionally, he collaborates as a peer reviewer for reputable journals and supervises undergraduate research projects as part of the Final Degree Project course at the European University of Madrid. In 2020, he was positively accredited by ANECA in all three categories of the PEP program: Assistant Professor, Contracted Professor, and Professor at Private Universities. He has also been recognized with several research awards, including the 2014 Research Award from the Madrid Association of Physiotherapists.
His clinical experience includes working as a physiotherapist at the Premium Madrid Rehabilitation Center (2014–2018) and with the Spanish national first-division basketball team (Liga Endesa), Montakit Fuenlabrada (February 2015–September 2018). He has also provided physiotherapy services as an independent practitioner at various clinics, including Amaro y Castillo Physiotherapy Center, CARMASALUD Clinical and Research Center, and the Inter Clinic at the International Tennis Club of Madrid.
In the field of teaching, he has contributed to various courses, primarily in Manual Therapy, accumulating over 500 teaching hours. He also specializes in musculoskeletal ultrasound, participating in numerous official training programs, including the Expert Course in Ultrasound Sonoanatomy at the European University of Madrid and several Master’s Degrees in Invasive and Sports Physiotherapy. Among these, he collaborates in the Master’s Degree in Sports Physiotherapy, part of the Real Madrid Graduate School – Universidad Europea. His clinical practice focuses on sports-related conditions, particularly in throwing sports and the upper limb.
Currently, he directs the Anatomy of the Locomotor System course, a role he has held since the 2022-2023 academic year. This course is part of the first-year curriculum for various degrees at the European University of Madrid. Additionally, he has been part of the working group responsible for developing the new academic curriculum and contributed to the design and creation of the Anatomy I and Anatomy II courses for the Musculoskeletal System.
