DNA barcoding reveals that most food claiming to have wild mushrooms, actually don't. The food probably has cultivated fungi and sometimes a few poisonous mushrooms https://t.co/Ml7iFFWgzU
The @UUtah @NHMU researchers used DNA barcoding to test what mushroom species made up 16 food products that listed “wild mushrooms” on their labels, from local grocery stores around SLC and a large online retailer. Find the full study here: https://t.co/52GlUvc1cW
My undergrad research is finally published! basically used DNA barcoding to identify what was in food sold as “wild mushrooms” ; found mostly cultivated stuff but in 1 packet we found Amanita pseudoporphyria which is poisonous!
