Christian Herzog
Summary
Christian Herzog is currently working as an independent biopharmaceutical consultant. Until mid 2011 he was Senior Director of Medical Affairs and Global Medical Advisor for Crucell Switzerland AG, the Swiss vaccine manufacturer (formerly Berna Biotech / the Swiss Serum and Vaccine Institute). He has held clinical research positions with Crucell/Berna Biotech since 1994. From 1985 to 1990 Christian Herzog performed clinical research in anti-infectives at F.Hoffmann-La Roche in Basel, and from 1990 to 1993 he served as head of the Public Health Department and City Physician of Basel, Switzerland.
After graduating with a degree in medicine from the Medical Faculty of the University of Basel in 1973, Christian Herzog specialised in internal medicine in Switzerland. He completed additional training in family planning (Basel, CH), pediatrics (Exeter, UK) and infectiology (London and Birmingham, UK). Until 1985 he worked in various positions as a hospital physician. In 1973 he obtained the Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (D.T.M.& H.) in Liverpool. He gained practical experience in infectious diseases and tropical medicine during stays in Tanzania, India and Ethiopia, and most recently in Nicaragua.
Christian Herzog is a member of several international scientific associations. Apart from clinical research in vaccinology, he is interested in the epidemiology of infectious diseases and in tropical medicine. He has published over 100 original papers.
