Summary
I am Nurulhasanah Othman. A PhD graduate in molecular medicine. My expertise is on proteomics, biochemistry, molecular biology, parasitic, bioinformatics and tropical medicine. Proteomics is defined as a study of the entire proteome of living organisms from various taxa. With the aid of state-of-art technologies using mass spectrometry, protein identification and quantification are currently emerging regardless by gel-based a or non-gel based (shotgun proteomics) workflows in many research laboratories of developed and developing countries. This would provide valuable information for proteomics scientists mainly in the biomedical field to discover new biological marker in to order to help them develop a better diagnostic tool for diseases, develop new drug and vaccine as well as to understand the mechanism of diseases. In my lab, the LC-MALDI-TOF/TOF is utilized for the protein identification and quantitation either using gel-based or non-gel based approaches mainly to elucidate the proteomes of organisms such as Entamoeba histolytica, Aedes aegypti, and rat. This would then contribute to better understanding of the biological system and pathogenesis of studied organisms and some of the identified protein molecules maybe can be used further for new diagnostic tool, drug, compound and vaccine developments . Furthermore, this technology also will be used also in cancer research and other related research at my institution, Universiti Sains Malaysia.
