Ali Al-Yaaribi is the Head of Physical Education and Sport Sciences Department at Sultan Qaboos University and an Associate Professor in Sport & Exercise Psychology. He has a BSc from Sultan Qaboos University (Oman), a MSc from the University of Western Australia (Perth), and a PhD from the University of Birmingham (UK). Ali is currently the vice chairman of Omani basketball Association (OBA) and was a member of (OBA) (2006-2010), los he used to play for the national basketball team. Ali teaches sport psychology (UG), learning motor (UG), psychology of competing and competition (UG), basketball (UG), and psychology of sport management (PG).
His research interests relate to moral behavior in sport. During his PhD, Ali investigated consequences of prosocial and antisocial teammate behaviors for the recipient’s sport-related achievement variables such as affect, performance, effort, commitment, cohesion, and burnout. His research is published in leading academic journals (e.g., Journal of Sport & Exercise Psychology and Psychology of Sport and Exercise) and presented at international conferences. Recently, Ali investigates doping behaviours among elite Omani athletes. Ali spends his free time playing basketball, bowling, and squash.
