I work in the Institute of Systematic Botany of The New York Botanical Garden, and study the flora, vegetation and conservation of the Atlantic coastal forest of NE Brazil, one of the most critically endangered ecosystems in the world. I also carry out systematic research on the Sedge family (Cyperaceae), especially the neotropical species of Rhynchospora, as well as the Simaroubaceae and Picramniaceae.
