Vesna Bjegovic-Mikanovic
Summary
Vesna Bjegovic-Mikanovic studied medicine in Belgrade where she gained MD, MSc and Ph.D. degrees in the field of public health. She is a full professor, Vice-Dean at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade, Head of the Chair of Social Medicine, and a member of the Health Council of Serbia elected by the Parliament.
Professor Bjegovic-Mikanovic was president of the Association of School of Public Health in the European Region (ASPHER) for the period 2014-2015 and a member of the Executive Board since 2006. She was awarded an honorary doctorate by the National School of Public Health Athens, Greece for outstanding scholarly achievements and contribution in the advancement of public health.
She is a member of the WHO Europe advisory group on the implementation of the European Action Plan on Public Health Services and Capacities. Also, she acts as External Expert in the remote evaluation of COST Action Proposal/s.
She participated in projects of UNICEF, UNFPA and the World Bank in Central Asia, and of the European Union in South-Eastern Europe and Africa. A Community Health Programme, which she led for four years, was awarded by SMDP CDC (Atlanta) for the methods in applied management learning. She is Associate Editor of the Journal of Public Health (Springer), Associate Editor of Frontiers in Public Health, section Public Health Education and Promotion, and a member of Editorial Board of the ASPHER Journal: Public Health Reviews.
