Sik Loo Tan
Dr Tan Sik Loo is a senior lecturer in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya having graduated in 2013. Her current research interest involves the metabolic syndrome in osteoarthritis and other musculoskeletal diseases, i.e. tendon, and pre-clinical trial for mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) applications in tendon repair and tissue imaging on musculoskeletal tissues with advanced imaging technology, i.e. AFM imaging. She supervises local and international post-graduate students (full research and clinical master students) for their research thesis in the area of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Besides, she is also a reviewer for local and international journals. Dr Tan is involved in the academic programme development, i.e. Master of Medical Science (Regenerative Medicine) programme. She leads the MS ISO/IEC 17025 laboratory accreditation team in the Orthopaedic Molecular and Biological Laboratory (OMBL), in the Tissue Engineering Group (TEG), National Orthopaedics Centre of Excellence in Research & Learning (NOCERAL), Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She is one of the internal auditors for the MS ISO/IEC 17025 audit. She had also been involved in the early development of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) in TEG, NOCERAL. Her current research focuses are MSCs in tendon repair; in vitro and in vivo models.
