Assoc. Prof Dr. Lim Phaik Eem is the Head of Marine Biotechnology Unit, Institute of Ocean and Earth Sciences (IOES), University of Malaya, Malaysia. She obtained her PhD in year 2013 on the molecular taxonomy of commercially important species of Gracilaria. Since then, she has applied molecular tools in identifying commercially and ecologically important on various taxa such as algae, insects, animals and parasites. To date, together with her co-workers, she has established a new family, Neoralfsiaceae for crustose brown seaweeds, described five new species of red seaweeds and one new species of brown seaweed. She has published more than 80 refereed journal articles and more than 10 book chapters. Her main research interests include the phylogenetics, biodiversity, phylogenomics studies of algae, insects, animals and parasite. She also using the genomics, proteomics and metabolomics tools in understanding the responses and adaptations of algae towards abiotic stress.
