I am a curious clinician. My undergraduate degree was layered in experimental psychology, specifically, behavioral pharmacology which resulted in a publication in the Journal of Behavioural Pharmacology in 1994. As a mental health practitioner I have always maintained an interest in neuroscience. I have found that experiential therapies such as EMDR, EFT, and mindfulness based meditation seem to have rapid effects for symptom resolution in my patients. After searching for the explanation for this, it seemed that the changes must be occurring at the gene expression level. That was the only thing that made sense due to immediate and delayed effects of treatment.
