Summary
Dr. Mohamed Atia Omar is Professor and group leader at Molecular Genetics and Genome Mapping Laboratory - Genome Mapping Dept., Agricultural Genetic Engineering Research Institute (AGERI), Egypt. Also, he is a Professor of Genomics and Bioinformatics at the Biotechnology Program, Faculty of Science, Cairo University. Additionally, he is a member of the board of directors of the Bioinformatics Center at Faculty of Science, Helwan University.
Dr. Atia received his Ph.D. Degree in Genetics from Cairo University in Egypt. Prior to receiving his Ph.D., he worked as faculty staff in Wisconsin-Madison University at United States of America (USA). During his work in the USA, he focuses on Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) technologies and its applications and he gained great experience in high-throughput data analysis. He also got another opportunity to join King Abdullah University for Science and Technology (KAUST) at KSA as a postdoctoral fellow (2013-2014) with focusing on the development of new CRISPR/Cas9 & Targeted Genome Editing approaches. The research interest of Dr. Atia during the last two years was focused on applications of genome mapping modern approaches and bioinformatics in structural genomics, BioData mining, genome editing, pharmacogenomics and metagenomics. Dr. Atia has published several publications in highly prestigious peer-reviewed journals in the fields of Molecular Genetics, Genome Mapping, High-throughput sequencing, BioData Mining, and Genome Editing.
