Professor Jianxin Niu (born in Xinjiang in 1962, male) graduated from the Shihezi Agriculture College in 1984, and entered the Department of Horticulture as an assistant. He got Doctor of Agronomy in Shenyang Agriculture University, under the guidance of Professor Luping Wu in June 2004. He was promoted to a Lecturer in June 1990 and then to Associate Professor in March 1993 and then to Professor in June 1998. In 2000 he attained the government special allowance. At present he is appointed the department director of Horticulture, Shihezi University, and acts as horticultural Professor of the College of Agriculture.
His major interests are in fruit tree horticulture and fruit tree biotechnology, fruit tree viruses, and he has published 200 articles and 6 books. He is the first to report that using molecular methods detect apple and pear viruses distributed in Xinjiang. In the investigation of the diagnosis methods he published a lot of practicability results. Now he is taking on two projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Key Technologies R&D Programme of China.
