Summary

The focus of my scientific work is on the improvement of farm animal welfare while ensuring animal-friendly husbandry. It contributes to the understanding of welfare-improving adaptation and evaluation processes of farm animals (pig, cattle, and goat). In particular I am working on cognitive abilities of farm animals and consequences of cognitive enrichment for animal welfare, as well as on phenotyping and the ontogenetic development of individual and social patterns of response and evaluation.
