Prof Melroses PhD studies in Edinburgh, Scotland (1978-82) employed fungal taxonomy, mycology, immunology and biochemical techniques to isolate and characterise cereal and fungal araboninoxylanases. He became a postdoctoral Research Fellow in Musculoskeletal disorders at The University of Sydney, Australia (1983-2113) where he investigated tensional and weight bearing musculoskeletal tissues including intervertebral disc, articular cartilage, meniscus, and tendon in health and disease and developed therapeutic stem cell technology for their repair. Dr Melrose is currently Honorary Senior Research Associate at the University of Sydney and Adjunct Professor Graduate School of Biomedical Engineering, University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. He has published 132 scientific papers and 14 book chapters and has consulted on Welcome Foundation (UK), INSERM (France), Netherlands Asthma Foundation, BIRAX Israel-UK Collaborative grants, French National Research Agency (ANR), Estonia National Grant Authority, Hong Kong Regional Grants Council, NHMRC Project and Senior Fellowship Grant Applications. Dr Melrose has been Associate Editor Eur Spine J since 2007.
