Heinz-R. Köhler studied Biology at Heidelberg University, Germany, and finished his PhD at the Zoological Institute I, University of Heidelberg, in 1992. He was a visiting postdoc scientist at the Institute of Ecology of Lund University, Sweden, and has lead research groups at the Universities of Heidelberg, Hohenheim and Tübingen (all Germany). In 2000, he became professor at Tübingen University and, after declining a chair at Greifswald University, he was elected Founding Director of the Institute of Evolution and Ecology in Tübingen. Since 2008 he holds the chair of Animal Physiological Ecology at Tübingen University. Heinz Köhler is interested in the impact of environmental stressors of both natural and anthropogenic origin on biotic systems at a broad spectrum of biological complexity. Research of his group focuses on animals´ survival strategies and pathologies at the biochemical, cellular, individual and population levels, and their ecological, ecotoxicological and evolutionary implications.
