Dr. Cheng is currently the Director of the Stem Cell Center in Taichung Veterans General Hospital (TCVGH) and a professor in National Chung-Hsing University and Tong-Hai University, and Providence University. He is one of committee members in Chinese Chemical Society, Taiwan Neurotrauma Society, Taiwan Liquid Chromatography Society, Taiwan Stem Cell Society and AustralAsian College of Medical Sciences and Research.
He received his PhD degree of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Oklahoma, OK USA. (1985-1989). Right after his graduation, he is working in TCVGH for 28 years till now. TCVGH is the largest hospital (1500 beds) in the central Taiwan. He was promoted to a professor (2000) and a Senior Principal Investigator (2006).
He is an expert in applying microdialysis and hyphenated techniques to magnesium research and stem cell therapy. His research interests are establishing experimental animal models including stroke, brain trauma, magnesium deficiency, and nerve degeneration diseases and assaying dynamic changes of neurochemicals in these animal models. In addition, the development of clinical and preclinical stem cell therapies is his mission in TCVGH. He is also an active participant of academic activities locally and internationally. In the academic performance, he is an author or co-author of 172 peer-reviewed articles.
