Farooq A Rathore
Summary
Dr Farooq Azam Rathore is working as a consultant and Associate professor in Rehabilitation Medicine at the Armed Forces Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine (AFIRM), Rawalpindi.
Dr Farooq is an active researcher with 170 national and international publications including four book chapters and 37 original research articles. He has been an invited and plenary speaker in national and international conferences and chaired and co-chaired the scientific sessions. He was awarded Ibn-e – Sina Silver medal in recognition of outstanding original research work presented at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, Islamabad Annual symposium 2007. He won ISPRM young Investigators award 2009 (Istanbul, Turkey), Travel grants of 4000 USD from Emerging Nations Science Foundation (Italy), Young Physician’s Scholarship for the 7th World Stroke Congress (Seoul, Korea), Research productivity Award 2010 ,2011 and 2012 (Pakistan Council for Science) , AuthorAID mentor of the year 2014 award and Gold medal for best oral presentation at the 2nd International CCME conference, UHS, Lahore.
In 2011 Dr Farooq was awarded 25,000 USD scholarship by Pakistan Armed Forces to Undergo on Job Training in the USA (Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine, NYU, NY and Kessler Rehabilitation, West Orange, NJ). H
Dr Farooq serves as a peer reviewer for 50 national and international medical journals. He is also editorial board member of 10 Journals. He is the national representative of Pakistan for the International Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ISPRM) and Asia-Oceanian Society of PMR (AOSPRM). He is also the executive board member of AOSPRM and Cochrane Rehabilitation.
He is passionate about teaching research writing and has conducted 100 workshops on topics like medical writing, scientific misconduct, research ethics, communication and presentation skills, spasticity management and stroke rehabilitation in 5 countries of the world.
His areas of interest and research are spinal cord injuries, stroke rehabilitation, amputee management, disaster rehabilitation, medical education and Bioethics.
