Summary
I am a biologist and sedimentologist working in the field of stratigraphic paleobiology. My objective is to identify large scale patterns governing the distribution and preservation of fossils in the geological record and how these patterns systematically affect reconstructions of biodiversity. I mostly use conodonts, but dabble in other early vertebrates in my studies, combining their ecology, sclerochronology and functional morphology to link organismal biology with the environment. More recently, I analyse crystallographic structures of early vertebrate fossils to understand their properties and functional adaptations.
I am an Assistant Professor at Utrecht University, an enthusiastic teacher interested in reaching and engaging in hands-on science diverse groups of students.
