Oceanography, current director of the Instituto de Ciencias del Mar y Limnología at UNAM. Main interest in Biodiversity and Macroecology using as model the deep sea benthic communities in tropical ecosystems.
Collaborative research projects and cruises providing baseline data on structure and function in the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean chemosynthetic and non-chemosynthetic benthic habitats of use to conservation. Teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels, thesis direction.
