Summary

My research interests include topics such as: technology for social good; information management and analytics; distributed systems; applications of blockchain; "smart" and sustainable infrastructure; renewable energy; and other issues in sustainability.

My bachelor's degree in computer science has provided me with knowledge of the basic underpinnings of the field. Additionally, I took coursework in other various fields, such as Engineering, Music, Geography, and Mathematics. Programming languages I am most proficient in include: Python, PHP, HTML5, JavaScript, JSON, CSS, C, C++, Java, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Neo4J, and Bash.

Interesting projects I have worked on recently include: creating and maintaining Tools for Amazon's Mechanical Turk, a productivity-based open-source browser extension; volunteering in response to the 2015 Nepal Gorkha earthquake; programming to monitor and publish data following the 2016 California presidential primary; use of scikit-learn (Python) to predict the value of data points (Human Activity Recognition Using Smartphones, UC Irvine). In August 2016, I attended the Linux Foundation's LinuxCon 2016 North America. Finally, during the summer of 2017, I worked as a paid intern for the Kamusi GOLD language project at EPFL in Lausanne, Switzerland.

In 2011, I co-founded a small family-run software development and data-entry business. At this time, I am still a co-owner and co-founder of the business, as well as the lead software developer.

Co-Owner, Co-Founder, Lead Developer

Finger Lakes Business Systems
January 2011
At FLBS, we focus on in-house software development and providing various data solutions. On a day-to-day basis, a few tasks which I undertake include: management of business operations; system administration; software development; new project leads; marketing; and data management. A small sample of the data-driven projects we undertake includes: generating geocoding data for retail sites; determining solar potential of buildings and residences; online data mining; business data acquisition; and Internet research data entry services. Much of our work is done in a competitive marketplace and we frequently compete to outpace and outperform competitors. We therefore strive to complete work in an accurate, efficient, and agile manner. The various software development assignments that I take on at FLBS include: Needs Identification; Planning; Design; Implementation, Testing, and Documentation; and Deployment, Maintenance, and Evolution. In the course of our work, I have had the opportunity to work with hundreds of clients throughout the world, creating thousands of business and data-entry services web applications and other software.

Summer Intern

École Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne
June 2017 - August 2017
Information Sciences
From the first week of June 2017 to the last week of August 2017, I participated in the Summer@EPFL program as a paid summer intern. The program is hosted by the computer science department of École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), in Lausanne, Switzerland. Roughly two-hundred undergraduate students participate each year. As part of the program I worked with the Distributed Information Systems Laboratory (LSIR). The particular project I worked on is the Kamusi GOLD language project, alongside Dr. Martin Benjamin (EPFL, Executive Director Kamusi). Tasks included system administration of a Ubuntu server; collaboration on website updates; review of Kamusi's Neo4J graph database; review of a one-billion term language PostgreSQL database (PanLex.org); and preparation for integrating external data sets into Kamusi's Neo4J graph database.
