Christa Them

Mrs. Christa Them is an acknowledged expert in the sector of nursing science with postdoctoral lecture qualification. She has been Rector of UMIT, the Private University for Health Sciences, Medical Informatics and Technology since 2009, and has been head of the Institute of Nursing Science at UMIT in Hall in Tirol (Austria) since 2006.
Christa Them was born in Vienna. After her A-levels she attended the nursing school at the Rudolfinerhaus hospital in Vienna and obtained her nursing degree in 1982. Afterwards, Christa Them worked as a certified nurse in various departments (haematology, urology and surgery departments). Then she worked as a nursing teacher at the Rudolfinerhaus hospital for four years. In 1991, Christa Them moved from Vienna to Innsbruck as she was offered the position as head of the nursing education department at the AZW training centre for healthcare professions in Innsbruck which she held for 14 years.
Christa Them has been pursuing an ongoing academic career. She attended the diploma studies of pedagogics in Vienna as well as the doctoral studies of pedagogics at the University of Innsbruck. In 2003, she was promoted to professor in health sciences under special consideration of nursing science at UMIT in Hall in Tirol. In 2006, she was appointed university professor at UMIT.
