Dr. Carlos Ramon Ruiz-Miranda is an Associate Professor of vertebrate behaviour and conservation at the Universidade Estadual do Norte Fluminense in Brazil.

His primary research interests include behaviour and conservation, animal reintroductions, and captive management.

Dr. Ruiz-Miranda obtained his Bachelor's degree in Biology in 1985 from Tulane University of Louisiana, and in 1992, a PhD in Animal Behaviour from University of California, Davis. During his PhD he worked on the ontogeny of behaviour and mother-offspring recognition in domestic and feral ungulates. From 1992-1997 he worked as Developmental Ethologist\Education specialist at the Department of Zoological Research of the Smithsonian's National Zoological Park. During this time he worked on the behaviour of wild and reintroduced golden lion tamarins. Since 1997 he has been a Vertebrate Behaviour and Conservation professor at the Universidade Estadual do Norte Fluminense in Brazil.
